THE SEVEN LAST WORDS or Siete Palabras refers to the seven last words uttered by Jesus Christ while nailed on the cross, recounted by Demet dela Cruz on this exhibition, SEVEN .
Time to reflect on Christ's Passion and Death is an intensely focused way, focusing on the seven final statement of Christ made during his last hours on the cross. These phrases are held dear by followers of Christ because they offer a glimpse into the depth of his suffering to accomplish redemption. Recorded in the Gospels between the time of his crucifixion and his death, they reveal his divinity as well as his humanity.
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.
Today you will be with me in paradise.
Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.
My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?
I thirst.
It is Finished.
Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.
Traditonally, these seven sayings are called words of Forgiveness, Salvation, Relationship, Abandonment, Distress, Triumph and Reunion.
